Silence of the Lambs is a masterfully written, directed and acted film which has stood the test of time thanks to its brilliant antagonists, protagonists and story.
Clarice and her struggle in this world of man does not seemed forced and allows us to decide to cheer for her in her battle for acknowledgment rather than being told to.
Buffalo Bill was an interesting primary antagonist, who did his part to give our characters direction and purpose without ever stealing the show from Lector or Clarice.
Hannibal Lector, the genius cannibal, left us always feeling uneasy in every scene. As a secondary antagonist, he was somehow able to make the film feel about him rather than our main characters, and steal the show with his magnificent performance and brilliant escape.
The film excelled in its direction and is now universally used in most film academies as an exemplar on how to demonstrate power dynamics using the angles, dialogue, lighting and tone.
This is a staple in almost all of cinema and will always be widely appraised because of what it was able to accomplish.
Great job by Foster and Hopkins. Hannibal's part could have been fleshed out a little more, though (sorry, couldn't resist that one. The book described him in more detail and made him even more reprehensible; the movie could have spent five minutes more and done the same.
